Today’s word is a ‘CARBON SINK‘.
So, what is a carbon sink?
A carbon sink is a natural or artificial reservoir that absorbs and stores more carbon dioxide than it releases. It acts like a giant air purifier, sucking up Carbon Dioxide and cleaning up our air, keeping the planet cooler.
Do you know what the top 3 carbon sinks are on our planet?
1 Oceans: Oceans are the largest natural carbon sinks, they absorb about 25% of all emissions
2. Forests: these green giants gobble up about 2 billion tons of carbon dioxide/year
3. Wetlands: they store about 225 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide which is equivalent to emissions from 189 million cars every year.
